I'll back you up on this one, Arb. Great playing, song choice, and the venue seems to bring out a little extra from Garcia and Kahn. It's one of those shows I play to the uninitiated.

I was absolutely ecstatic when I received a HQ cassette ( yeah that's right )of this show in the early 90's and wore it out. Great stuff. Any idea what the dude requested that had Jerry say - I haven't really got it together for that, had I known... ( or something along those lines ). I assumed someone had asked for an electric song.

Another great story is how Garcia had started this tour out solo and had gotten total cold feet and had to call Kahn to come join him ( of course maybe there were other obvious reasons but I've heard lots of stories of him getting nervous performing ). I think he played two shows at most solo I believe.

it's my understanding that 4/10/82 is the only Jerry 'solo' show, and i can understand him feeling more comfortable with others on stage with him, altho that 4/10 show is pretty good, at least from what i remember (another one i haven't listened to in a long time) ... Garcia tapes, at least for me, were pretty hard to come by back in the day, i was glad for every morsel!

Well toggle my cookies!!
Hell yeah! I received this from one of you kynd, deadicated
ones round these parts. I wish I could remember who, but
it all rolls into one after a while... I
I know is all burned as one track on the CD (which is so
2005 apparently), which kind of bothered me at first.
But then I realized it made me listen to the whole thing,
all the time. And what is wrong with that?!?!
Thanks for the jog....I havent gone in a while...

Growing up in Salem, this is one of the first GD or any related GD bootlegs I was passed. Other than it being Oregon's top tier penitentiary, meaning the really bad guys go there, it is tucked beautifully at the base of the Cascade Moutain range. I have listened to this show as many times as my other beloved JGB show, 3.18.78. 1982 was a great year for Jerry. For my money it doesn't get any better for a solo Garcia/Kahn show. Cash's Folsom Prison may be the ultimate live prison album, but this is right up there.

Another note of interest, Kesey's One Who Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest was filmed at the Oregon State Mental Hospital, just miles from the State Penn. This year they are tearing parts down to make way for a new Mental Ward. The famed FU is still painted on the side of the old ward.

Follow the annotations on the videos to download the show from my blog (MP3).

Is that frowned upon on here? I'm thinking it is)
